Salmonids in the Classroom 2016!

Releasing chum salmon fry into the Nimpkish River raising the fish for nearly 5 months! The Quatse Salmon Stewardship Centre is proud to support the Department of Fisheries and Oceans in their efforts to continue to provide education on salmonid enhancement and conservation in schools across Northern Vancouver Island.

Eyed coho and chum eggs are delivered to schools in early January.  Students care for the eggs and fish as they develop and release the salmon fry back into their natal streams in early Spring.

Hatchery Tours

Hatchery tours for school groups are available from September to June.  Available activities will depend on the time of year.  Egg takes, salmon dissections, stream walks and invertebrate investigations are some of the possibilities.

Other Stream to Sea Programs

The Stream to Sea program offers a wide variety of education programs in addition to the Salmon in the Classroom program. Students thoroughly enjoy learning about the incredible marine life supported by coastal beaches.  Our Education Coordinator will come to you and programs are free of charge.

We also have resource bins available for teachers to check out if they would like to facilitate the program themselves.  Contact Jeannine for more information.
