Adopt a Fish Program
Have you ever wondered what it takes to help support and rebuild vulnerable salmon populations? Well, here’s you chance to get involved in a program that is educational, meaningful and fun – the Adopt a Fish Program
What is the Adopt a Fish Program?
The Adopt a Fish Program is a fun and interactive way for kids, families, and community members to help enhance the salmon populations. By adopting a fish, you are making a donation that will go toward the program that ensures these fish will have the best chance at surviving and thriving, in order to return back to our rivers.
Why are Salmon so Important
Salmon aren’t just any fish. They play a HUGE role in the health of our ecosystems. After returning to the rivers to spawn, the bodies of the salmon release nutrients, fertilizing the waters helping the plants and trees to grow, which, in turn, provides food for other aquatic life and many animals. They are also a key part of the food chain, feeding everything from birds to bears to humans.
But here is the problem: Salmon populations have been declining due to things such as pollution, habitat destruction, climate change and overfishing. By adopting a fish, you can lend a helping hand to the next generation of Quatse Coho salmon
How can I get involved?
Fill out the form below, in return you will receive a package containing your official certificate of adoption along with a few fun surprises! We will also send you information regarding the date and location for package pickup.
As a part of the program, you’ll learn about the salmon’s journey from the egg to the ocean and back again. Plus, you’ll get to participate in a special event and release your own salmon back into the river at the Quatse River Hatchery and Salmon Stewardship Centre.
Even though adopting a fish might seem like a small step, every step helps, and together, we can make a BIG difference. So, act now and become a part of our efforts to help enhance our salmon populations!
